David Carroll (90)
Born deep in the Ureweras & raised by wild deer, the early years of bass & drum bandito 90's life remain something of a mystery...
However, you can run, but you can't hide.
90 is David Carroll, who works at local indie music distributor Rhythmethod, dealing daily with a tasty & diverse spread of local & international music.
He & his mate Murry Sweetpants are fledgling touring company Trusted Friends. They're the guys behind NZ shows by Alice Russell, TM Juke, Rephrase, Norman Jay, Crazy P and Roy Ayers — each show also showcasing an array of local talent.
90's also a regular DJ about town, appearing behind the decks at Sale St., Chapel, Altar & Khuja, as well as a monthly night at Ponsonby Social Club alongside Mr Rivers.
You may know 90 from his original Sunday evening slot on George, which he held down for close to 2 years. For the George Sunday lunchtime — a show held down for 9 years by the legendary Darrell Aardvark — 90 stays true to his eclectic tastes, delivering a get down grab-bag of gorgeous grooves, bubbling basslines & sweet soul — ranging from deep funk & rare groove to disco boogie & broken beat; from afro & latin house to roots reggae — with a double dose of feelgood flavours.
...and, saving the best for last: 90 is blissfully ensconced in a beautiful hidey-hole in the heart of Herne Bay, with his gorgeous wahine Sonia & their little girl Paige...
