In The Pocket
90 - Midday, Sunday
Born deep in the Ureweras & raised by wild deer, the early years of bass & drum bandito 90’s life remain something of a mystery...
However, you can run, but you can’t hide.
90 is David Carroll, who has a long history of dealing daily with a tasty & diverse spread of local & international music. His roots are deep in independent music retail, wholesale, promotion & performance. He recently left Rhythmethod after 8yrs in the trenches of the local music scene.
90 is one third of the Hit It & Quit It Crew, with big plans afoot for 2011...
90 & his mate Murry Sweetpants are Trusted Friends. They’re the guys behind NZ shows by Alice Russell, TM Juke, Rephrase, Norman Jay, Crazy P and Roy Ayers, with each show also showcasing an array of local talent. Watch out for more from these musical miscreants during the year too.
90’s also a regular DJ about town, currently holding down a longterm residency at Longroom. He’s also appeared behind the decks at Neighbourhood Brew Bar, Ponsonby Social Club, Khuja, Sale St., Chapel, Bungalow 8, Rakinos & many others. Some of 90’s favourite gigs include a handful of private functions he shouldn’t really go into any detail about here. His Mama Deer raised a boy better ‘n that.
90 has held down the George Sunday lunchtime show for 5yrs now. There has been only one other host of the show in George FM’s lifetime: the legendary Darrell Aardvark. 90 stays true to his eclectic tastes every weekend, delivering a get down grab-bag of gorgeous grooves, bubbling basslines & sweet soul, ranging from deep funk & rare groove to disco boogie & broken beat; from afro & latin house to roots reggae, all dished up with a double dose of feelgood flavours.
...and, saving the best for last: 90 is blissfully ensconced in a beautiful hidey-hole in the heart of Sandringham, with his gorgeous wahine Sonia, their beautiful little girl Paige & a very healthy vegetable garden...
