Originally from London, Lowman moved to NZ in 2005 and calls Auckland home.
His party-friendly block rockin' style has had the crowds moving since 1992, starting with Stoke on Trent's seminal Sure is Pure club night, going under the name of The Michael Cained Experience.
Back in the big smoke he had a residency for a few years at the legendary Mudd Club at Bagleys in Kings Cross, run by infamous UK promoter Phillip Salon. Any kiwi who has spent time in the UK will probably have gotten messed up there once or twice.
In 2004 things got a little more intimate, when Lowman ran a rocking' little monthly called 'Damn Right' with Freestyle records' Sleeve (of 'Hipness' fame) in London's Brick lane. Damn Right's mix of Block Party Funk, Old Skool Hip-Hop, and mash-up goodness guaranteed hot and sweaty good times for all!
'Damn Right' made the jump to New Zealand, and ran for six months during summer 2008. It may still return if we find a good home !
Lowman started producing his own tunes in 2002, and hooked up with local partner-in-grooves Sleeve to put out some tunes on Adrian Gibson's Freestyle Records. "So Fine" sold out on vinyl, after being picked up and championed by Sir Norman Jay himself, who dropped it as his last tune throughout summer 05 at The Big Chill, Notting Hill Carnival and the festival circuit...
So Fine was then released on Norman Jay's - 'Good Times: 25th Anniversary Edition' alongside tunes by Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Masters at work and NZ's own Recloose, and was included on Freestyles 'Single Minded' compilation. The hard to find flip "Kick It" can be found on Freestyle's 'Collected Singles 8'.
Lowman has co-hosted "Hip Hop Underground" on GeorgeFM since 2007 with local legend 'Stormin Norman'.
Now flying mostly solo in the same slot, "The Melting Pot" with Lowman airs at 10pm every Sunday. Tune in for a schizophrenic journey through Block Party Beats, Old Skool Hiphop, Disco nuggets, Mashup Goodness and everything else in between!
