The Profile, Ep 1: MeloDownz - The Anthem (Intro)

The Profile 03/05/2017

The Profile. We've teamed up with NZ on Air for a new fortnightly feature profiling our homegrown talent, presented by our man Jay Bulletproof.

Young Gifted And Broke's MeloDownz (real name Bronson Price) is busy maintaining his release schedule, this time teaming up with NZ soulista Bailey Wiley for the laidback and “quintessentially Kiwi” riddim simply titled “The Anthem (Intro).

What more can I say? MeloDownz has consistently proven why he’s one of Aotearoa's most in demand lyricists. The self proclaimed “Jack Sparrow of Rap, The Slipknot of Hip Hop” paired with Bailey Wiley - one of the smoothest singers NZ has to offer? This was always bound to result in a thing of beauty.

'The Anthem' is the first single taken from MeloDownz forthcoming E.P. available to stream now on YouTube.

The single is accompanied by a video that reminds us all of the summer just past and celebrates and unifies some of New Zealand’s best up and coming hip hop acts including: SWIDT, eno x dirty, the slo:wave collective and a number of acts from the Growroom (LSJ, Shiraz and Free Minds).  Bronson puts it simply:

"I wanted to bring everyone together."

With props to the YGB crew in the lyrics, and conversely shout outs "to all the bros who never made it", this is an anthem for all of NZ hip hop, to celebrate collectively.

What a way to kick off NZ Music Month.

"Doper than the stinkiest nug fresh out the zip lock."

Damn. MeloDownz. This EP is gonna be fire.
