HBO hackers threaten to drop GOT S7 Ep7 "as soon as possible"
The hacker group that attacked HBO recently has threatened to release the final episode of the current, seventh season of Game of Thrones early.
Although they were offered US$250,000 from the US-based media company in leaked negotiations, the hackers apparently demanded US$6.5 million in Bitcoin as ransom for the stolen content and are "ready" to release the highly-anticipated season finale.
The latest season of the hit fantasy TV show has been hit by several problems - in addition to the hack attack, HBO itself accidentally leaked the penultimate sixth episode online early and had its social media accounts hacked in a separate attack.
"Be ready for GOT S& E6 &E7 as soon as possible," the hacker group warned in a message to Mashable, which also reported that official HBO Giphy accounts were compromised.
HBO has admitted being hit hit by a major 'cyber-incident', which resulted in up to 1.5 terabytes of data being stolen from its servers.
"We are not in communication with the hacker and we're not going to comment every time a new piece of information is released," HBO said in a statement.
"The hacker may continue to drop bits and pieces of stolen information in an attempt to generate media attention. That's a game we're not going to participate in."
Following this season's finale S07E07 being broadcast in New Zealand on Monday, August 29, the seventh and final season is said to go into production in October.
