Ripe Deli, Richmond Rd..
A veteran of George FM, with several years experience on the airwaves, but still very much on the rise, Mr. Rivers delivers a selection of smooth chocolate-covered soul treats sprinkled with funk every Sundae.
From rare groove, downbeat, nu soul, broken beat, house to roots and funk business. Each week is a soul-filled freestyle flow thru the crates. With highs and lows, ups and downs, lefts and rights, it is truly a journey of contrasts. From classic combinations to a taste for new untried flavours, every weekend Mr. Rivers serves a global soul music selection.
As part of an eclectic weekend soundscape, Chocolate Sundae helps spread the good groove to George from 4pm.
DJ Profile:
Like Manuel Bundy and Mr. Big Stuff, a graduate of Mangere's school of hard knocks and the product of a musical family, Mr Rivers was raised on a steady diet of band practices, garage parties and musical lectures from family members. After playing a little bit of drums, a touch of bass, some time on the gat amongst other tutus, it wasn't until the turntables turned up on his lap by complete coincidence that he found his groove. It helped that he had been collecting records since he was a wee thing, and also that he inherited vinyl from his Dad, older brother and big cousins another lucky turn.
Mr. Rivers holds down a residency at the eclectic lounge bar Verona on K Rd every Thursday evening from 7pm where he also films his ALT TV show Stereo Deluxe. A steady flow of guests from the ranks of the NZ DJ community joins in for the fun. You can also check Rivers every last Friday of the month at Suite Bar jamming alongside good friends and fellow George Sunday Family members Nyntee and Pete Nice. Keep an eye out for other excursions as he pops up at La Zeppa, Khuja Lounge, Rakinos amongst others on the regular.
Mr Rivers also works in TV behind the scenes in field production and has also done music production for TV (Kete Aronui an arts doco screened internationally). He has more recently returned to his lab and is currently in the process of producing an EP alongside some of AKs underground DJs and MCs. It's been a long time coming, but as they say, you can't rush a good thang!!
Peace Love Prosperity and all praise to The Most High!!
