Based in Auckland, Aotearoa...
Philippa has been a keen music enthusiast from day one... How could she not? She's the daughter of a music /piano teacher... Philippa's early years were spent participating in all things musical, with formal music training. Then as teenage years hit, she was embraced by the sordid, sublime and sultry world of alternative rock. Nelson was a great place to grow up!
Attending Victoria University in Wellington to gain a BA in the study of Religion, Philippa discovered the deep underground rumblings of Wellington House djs Andee and Schmoo... It was then that things really started to warm up...
Moving to Auckland late 97, Philippa began to dj professionally; becoming a regular dj at infamous Auckland nightclub Calibre, the club being under the direction of Roger Perry at the time...
Around 2000, Philippa mixed the second ever Remix Magazine mix cd; (the first mixed by Roger Perry); held up still today as one of the best Remix cds, she went on to pick up the Best Up and Coming DJ award at the B net music awards that year; and then got flown to the Redbull Music Academy in Dublin!
Then in 2001 Philippa began hosting Friday afternoon Drive on the George!
In 2002 Philippa released a mix cd for cool local music company In Music - this cd is still available in music stores today - "Philippa - In Music"
These days: Philippa is now a fully qualified Sound Engineer.
And more recently has launched production company Soul Productions. Aiming to represent the deep and real Auckland Underground, the first parties were the Ghetto Love events, put on at Morrisson, representing with the deeper party flavours of Auckland dance culture - House, Hip Hop, Disco and Soul. Chicago Disco is the second party night launched by Soul Productions. Based at the infamous Ink bar on K Road, these nights are bi monthly - and rock the joint with solid American House..
Philippa remains one of NZ's favourite underground djs, booked heavily in AK clubs and around the country every weekend... What can u expect to hear her spin? Vibing and swinging House music. Music with soul, a bit of a bump and a helping of oddball flava... Geographically speaking she's influenced greatly by sounds from Chicago, Detroit and West Coast America.
