Dan moved to New Zealand at the start of 2008 after many successful ditch crossings, and a huge summer tour during the Christmas / NYE period of 2007. He was easily convinced the unique, laidback NZ lifestyle was the one for him.
Quickly establishing himself as one of NZ's leading DJ's, headlining gigs all over the country as well as being booked to support internationals with big club sets alongside the likes of Booka Shade, Rico Tubbs, Hijack, Goodwill, Sam La Moore, Kelevra, DJ Sega, Bang Gang DJs, Act Yo Age, fRew, Bass Kleph, Kid Kenobi & MC Shureshock, Dopamine, Minuit plus large festival outdoor events Summa Dayze, Summer:Fest, Our House, Highlife NYE '08 & '09, Baywatch NYE '09
As well as his non-stop gigs Dan is always hard at work on his own productions both solo and as Shopliftas, gaining releases in UK and Australia.
Dan is also host of Aux Radio, a weekly slot on New Zealand's largest independant radio station George FM, which broadcasts nationally every Friday night 10pm - Midnight (Internationally streaming on www.georgefm.co.nz) where he can be found mixing up the freshest of everything from House to Techno, Dubstep and Electro.
Dans signature DJ style is what he likes to call "Just Great club Music", a unique party mix of all things 4/4 from Fidgety Electro to Prog and Techno with a shitload of scratching 'n sampling, plus even a little bit of Dubstep and Drum N Bass if the vibe is right!
DJing since the late 90's after leaving highschool, Dan quickly picked up the skills aquired to become not only a great DJ but a club promoter aswell. Running many residencys in and around his hometown of Newcastle, as well as establishing the hugely successful Nutshell Breaks events that ran for over six years.
Rated by Ministry Magazine as one of the top 5 events of its kind in Australia, Nutshell featured the cream of the current crop of touring international superstar DJs and producers as regular guests (Krafty Kuts, Stanton Warriors, Plump DJs, Freestylers, Freq Nasty, Deekline & Wizard etc) and also local talent that would, in years to come, go on to emerge as some of Australia's brightest stars (Ajax, Kid Kenobi, Bass Kleph, Hook N Sling)
Outside of his home town Dan has also been a regular DJ on the Sydney scene over the years, boasting residencys at some of the city's biggest club nights including Home, Chinese Laundry, Kink, The Arthouse, Tank, Candy's Appartment, YU aka SoHo and Ruby Rabbit which also came with it the chance to rub shoulders and DJ alongside the plethora of international talent that Sydney naturally attracts. (Z-Trip, Plump DJs, Benni Benassi, Tayo, Moguai, DJ Falcon, Krafty Kuts, Aquasky, Slyde, Atomic Hooligan, Tonite Only, Sharem Jay, David Guetta... the list goes on...)
It was only natural for Dan to fall into the more technical side of the dance music, and for the last 5 years has been producing under the name Shopliftas. Originally starting out as a threesome, then a twosome with good mate John Dubbs, and now mostly solo due to John's work commitments back home in Aussie (ie John's parents made him get a job to match his uni degree back in mid 2007)
Closely tied to Sydney label Vacation Records, arguably one of dance music's coolest and most highly regarded labels. Vacation thrust Shopliftas music into the limelight with big tunes and remixes including 'Bermuda Nights' a collaboration with label-mate fRew that earned the title Producer of the Month in UK dance music bible, Mixmag. Much loved for its atmospheric elements and signature Sydney sound, 'Bermuda Nights' is best described by the always tactful Stupid Fresh lads; "Fuck Barry White, this is music to sex your lady to." Indeed.
More recent releases have come via award nominated UK label Ground Level, all the while garnering a stack of support from artists as diverse as DJ Icey, Keith Mackenzie and Rudder in the United States & Canada. Stupid Fresh, Meat Katie, Lisa Lashes and Drumattic Twins in the UK, Maelstrom in France and closer to home Nick Thayer, Adam Bozetto, Wongo, Greg Churchill & Kid Kenobi (again, to name but a few!)
Now living the 100% Pure New Zealand lifestyle, DJing and Producing full time, Dan is more inspired than ever, when you see what is going on behind the decks you know there is some kind of magic happening. His experience working the crowds at some of Australia and New Zealands biggest dance events and frequently playing alongside an array of the worlds most successful acts has all been conducive in shaping not only the music Dan plays but the way in which it is presented, a genre defying fenzy of dexterity and flair.
An accomplished scratch DJ and an internationally accliamed producer, Dan can easily lay claim to being the ultimate DJ package when it comes to getting the party started and keeping it going all night long.
To put it simply, a DJ you can trust time and time again!
