Soane was born in the village of Vava'u, located in the northern islands of Tonga, in the South Pacific. Music was a big part of his growing up and in order to further this Soane moved to Auckland, New Zealand.
Soane's DJing career began in 1989 when he assumed the unconventional position of doorman/DJ at club Roma and the Box nightclub in Auckland - cutting up hip hop and R&B under the somewhat appropriate moniker of DJ Big Daddy.
Soane's popularity as a DJ grew rapidly with the Auckland crowd and he eventually decided that standing outside all night telling people that their shoes weren't right wasn't what he wanted to be doing, so he became a full time working DJ. As time passed, both his record collection and his ability to work the crowd developed.
In 1995 Soane made a break to Sydney, Australia to pursue his DJing career, drink loads of booze and hang around with actors from Neighbours. He quickly established himself as a backroom favourite, picking up loads of guest spots and holding down a couple of residencies.
In 1997 Soane returned to his faithful crowd at the Box and Cause Celebre in Auckland. The past few years have been rather fruitful with Soane picking up support slots for a multitude of visiting internationals and holding residencies at such hot nightspots as Calibre, Grand Circle and Bacio.
Around this time Soane's relationship with Paperecordings and Shaboom developed, after yearly visits (drinking sessions) from the two label's DJs.
In 1999 Soane embarked on his first month long tour of the UK and France, playing guest spots with his soul mates, Miles Hollway (Paperecordings), Ben Davis and current Auckland resident Dick Johnson (Shaboom & Paper). A tour highlight was perfroming in Manchester alongside Miles and Andy Weatherall at Robodisco. He returned to the UK again in 2001 for another tour and collaborations with Shaboom and Paper's Reset were arranged after the success of '99's Troughman (renamed Troffman) collaboration 12" with Shaboom, named after a mythical toilet man from New Zealand.
At home in New Zealand Soane is regularly in the studio with his engineer Luke Tombs making deep house amongst his normal residencies and multitude of guest appearances at many of this countries leading club nights and parties
Currently Soane has just kicked off his spot on the GeorgeFM Legends spot 2-4pm Weekdays!
