You could say the crew on the ship have really blown it

A record-setting drug bust was reported yesterday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, with over 16 tons of cocaine seized off a ship in Philadelphia.

The ship stopped in Philadelphia and was on its way to Europe before the bust. The cocaine was discovered inside eight containers from a cargo ship after drug dogs realised something was up.

The ship, originating in Chile, made stops in Peru and the Bahamas before hitting the US. Where the cocaine was picked up or where it was headed is unknown. In total it's been reported that the seized amount is worth over $1 billion dollars.

“This is one of the largest drug seizures in United States history. This amount of cocaine could kill millions – MILLIONS – of people," U.S. Attorney William McSwain tweeted. "My Office is committed to keeping our borders secure and streets safe from deadly narcotics.”

Crew members have reportedly been arrested following the massive bust.
