A 59-year-old man has died in an incident involving a Lime electric scooter in downtown Auckland.
The incident took place shortly before 10pm on a footpath near the intersection of Bradnor Ln and Fanshawe St, police say.
Police were working to identify the man at 12:15am. His body was removed from the scene around 1am and a Lime scooter was taken away as evidence.
Police say the circumstances of the death are not suspicious.
It's believed to be the first Lime scooter death in New Zealand. A spokesperson for Lime told Newshub the company is "devastated" to hear of the death.
"Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends during this extremely difficult time. We have been in contact with local authorities and continue to assist however possible."
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Auckland Police on (09) 302 6400. The death will be referred to the coroner.
Another man died on an e-scooter earlier this year after a Brisbane resident after he crashed his lime scooter in May.
ABC reported at the time the man was thought to be wearing a helmet when the accident happened.
It's believed his death was the first e-scooter fatality in Australia.
