Cue the eyeroll - the latest internet trend has 'influencers' encouraging women to smear toothpaste and Vaseline on their boobs to help them grow.
Let's just get the obvious out of the way first - NO THIS WILL NOT WORK. In any way, shape or form.
Ok, glad we cleared that up. So a Youtuber that goes by Naturalbeauty556 uploaded a video recently titled ‘Tighten Sagging Breats in Just 5 Days Using Toothpaste – No Joke’, claiming that a mixture of toothpaste, flour, egg whites and grated cucumber "will tighten up your breasts like really, really crazy".
Another channel, Susana Home Remedies, suggests putting toothpaste on your nipples and rubbing Vaseline on your breasts to make them grow larger.
We repeat, none of this will work. The fact is, applying anything to the top layer of your skin won't make any deeper changes to your body.
Try putting some toothpaste on your hand, and you'll feel the skin seems a bit tighter - this is because it's drying the skin out. It's the reason people use toothpaste to treat pimples. But once you wash the toothpaste off, the skin will go back to it's normal state.
The same goes for the Vaseline - it will make your skin shiny, maybe making your breasts appear bigger. But there is no actual change in size.
The medical director of the London Bridge Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Clinic, Christopher Inglefield, says:
"This bizarre advice simply preys on the many women who are unhappy with the size of their breasts and who might resort to bizarre 'miracle fixes' to find a solution to their problem. Sadly, like a lot of guidance on the internet, the Vaseline and toothpaste method of breast augmentation is fake news and pure online quackery. Your breasts may end up smelling minty fresh, but it’s highly unlikely there will be any growth."
So if you want to smell minty, go right ahead and give this trend a go, but it won't be much use for anything else! Otherwise, learn to love your own unique body, and don't let anyone try and influence you to change it.
