PM Jacinda Ardern announces plan to move Auckland out of Lockdown

undefined

Seven weeks into lockdown, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has revealed the new plan to get Aucklanders out of their homes in time for Summer.

The plan is made up of a three step plan, starting from 11.59pm Tuesday, with step 1.

Step 1:

Auckland will remain in Alert Level 3 from 11.59pm Tuesday, but People will be able to connect with loved ones OUTDOORS with no more than two households at a time, up to a maximum of 10 people at any given time.

Early childhood education will return from Wednesday, parents, teachers and caregivers will need to wear masks during pick up and drop off.

"Our public health team believe that with the right precautions in place, including limiting the size of groups to 10 children within a bubble at an ECE, strict infection prevention and control, the risk posed by the return of ECE is low," said the Prime Minister.

The exact number will depend on the number of bubbles of 10 children they can manage on their site.

People can move around Auckland for recreation such as beach visits, outdoor crossfit, yoga, sail hunt, or even play bowls.

Step 2

No date is announced next from step 2 onwards, but will be reviewed in a weeks time.

At step two retail will open their doors, with the usual measures of wearing facemasks and keeping up physical distancing.

Public facilities such as pools and zoos will open; and the number of people who can meet OUTDOORS will increase to 25.

Step 3

Hospitality will open – seated, separated and with a limit of 50.

Close contact businesses like hairdressers will also open with mask use and physical distancing; and gatherings will also then extend to 50.

Schools are also indicated to return from October 18th, for the start of term 4 but will be reviewed closer to the time.
