Pet owners warned by South Korean authorities after 107 cat-related house fires

News 03/01/2022

The Seoul Metropolitan Fire and Disaster Department announced in a statement that 107 house fires were started by pet cats. Most of the fires were started while the owners were out. An official told CNN,

"Cat-related fires are continuing to occur recently,"

"We advise households with pets to pay extra attention as fire could spread widely when no one is at home."

According to the fire and disaster department many of the cats accidentally turned on electric stoves or jumped on touch-sensitive buttons.

Pets aren’t only setting fires in South Korea, they are also responsible for over 1000 house fires in the US each year.

So if you're a cat person be sure to get rid of any flammable objects and turn off your stove before leaving your furry friend at home for the pub.
