Instagram is trying to make sure you think before you comment

The social media giant are rolling out a couple of new safety features aimed at protecting its users.

A warning message will display whenever someone tries to post a comment that may be considered abusive.

The new initiative hopes to combat online bullying.

In early stages the method has reportedly been effective, giving users a chance to consider their potentially hurtful comments.

Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, said the AI-run warning feature has already prevented comments during early testing.

'In the last few days, we started rolling out a new feature powered by AI that notifies people when their comment may be considered offensive before it’s posted,' he said. 'This intervention gives people a chance to reflect and undo their comment and prevents the recipient from receiving the harmful comment notification.'

Instagram users will now also have a “restrict” function which limits another user’s interactions with their account. If someone restricts you, you will be able to comment, but only you can see it until the user approves the comment.

Sounds like a pretty good initiative to us.
