Bailey Wiley's new single will make you fall in love with this Lady
Kiwi soul sensation Bailey Wiley has released the video for 'Lady', the first single from her upcoming and eagerly-anticipated EP, due to drop in 2018.
It’s about honouring yourself and knowing when to call your man out.
‘Lady’ oozes soul, with sexy horns and Bailey's smooth vocals. It's a tune for girls to listen to and feel strong, to remember their selfworth. That's some shit we can get behind.
“It’s about honouring yourself and knowing when to call your man out,” says Wiley. “It’s about standing on your own and knowing what’s best for you.”
The single, made with the help of Eno, Soraya, Guy Harrison and Ben Lawson, is accompanied by a video, which was shot and edited by Jasper Jay and directed by Wiley herself.
“With the video, we wanted to put a spin on the way the public views women. And yes, sure we got a bunch of beautiful wahine and put them in Lonely lingerie, but we also inverted the images to give the viewer a cryptic understanding of what’s going on and what we’re trying to say - you don’t always have to take your clothes off to gain attention.”
Women are deeper than that; more intelligent than that. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
“Women are deeper than that; more intelligent than that. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - it doesn’t matter what size, shape, colour, age or religion you are. Beauty is not prejudice.”
We love you Bailey and everything you stand for.
A strong contender on the ‘Red Bull Sound Select x Young Gifted and Broke’ roster, Bailey is the only Kiwi chosen to perform at Red Bull’s ‘30 Days in Chicago in the United States. She will open for Syd (AKA as the frontwoman for The Internet) at her sold-out show at The Metro. Read about it here.
