Philippe Cerboneschi (aka Zdar), one half of French dance duo Cassius, died in Paris on Thursday aged 52.
"He made an accidental fall, through the window of a high floor of a Parisian building," said agent Sebastien Farran.
Cerboneschi and Hubert Blanc-Francard (aka Boom Bass) formed Cassius in 1996 after first collaborating in 1988. Cassius went on to work with the likes of Beastie Boys, Franz Ferdinand, Hot Chip and Ghostface Killah.
The band's first album in three years, Dreems, is due out Friday.
Tributes have poured in since the passing of the electronic music pioneer from past collaborators, friends and those who had drawn inspiration from Zdar.
RIP Philippe Zdar.
