Diplo releases statement after shots fired at Brazil show

This isn't good.

American DJ Diplo was rushed to safety on Wednesday after a shooting at a festival he was performing at in Brazil.

The musician, known for his solo work as well as part of Major Lazer and LSD, was about to take the stage at São Paulo's Latinha Mix Block, when gunshots rang out.

Diplo, whose real name is Thomas Pentz, dropped to the ground with other party-goers at the street festival. Security guards then rushed towards him and swooped him into protection. The artist had been streaming live on his Instagram account when the shots were heard, but that footage is no longer publicly available.

Diplo shared a post on Instagram expressing his thoughts after the incident.

Two people were injured in the shooting, but it's unclear what caused the chaos.

Brazillian news outlet UOL reports a man attempted to steal a chain off another man's neck. The attempted theft victim then pulled out a gun and shot the assailant. Another woman was also accidentally hit.

"The first information indicates that the victim reacted by shooting at the criminal, who was taken to Saboya hospital. A woman was also hit and rescued at Hospital das Clínicas," UOL reported the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat as saying.

A full investigation is underway into the circumstances.

Following the shooting, the show was cancelled.
