Nik from Noisia and Jeremy from The Upbeats - two drum and bass stalwarts - have teamed up to form new house duo Body Ocean.
Nik and Jeremy have already released a pair of tracks under the new moniker and are now preparing to release their debut EP on their new imprint Dattan featuring three tracks, ‘Red Flags’, ‘Narcissist’ and ‘Screen Time’.
“We’re two friends from opposite ends of the globe: Jeremy from New Zealand and Nik from the Netherlands," the pair said. "Body Ocean is us exploring dance music together. We met through drum & bass years ago, and became close friends when we realized we both loved a lot of the same things.
"As musicians, working on drum & bass for years, our curiosity grew towards different ends of the dance music spectrum. When we saw Green Velvet play and went to Dirty Bird parties respectively the vibe there was just so infectious that the music stuck its hooks in us. We realized there was an amazing sense of freedom there, which was reflected in the people on the dance floor. That musical freedom and ‘genre-agnostic’ attitude provided an exciting departure point for a journey of exploration."
NZ-based Jeremy is hoping the first Body Ocean show will take place in Hamilton on December 11.
Their debut EP arrives Friday October 16. Listen back to Jeremy's Body Ocean hotset below, performed live on George FM Breakfast on Monday.
