LISTEN: Shapeshifter deliver two new tunes from their upcoming album 'Rituals'

Been waiting for these since summer!

On the back of announcing a two-date tour, New Zealand electronic music legends Shapeshifter have today released two brand new album singles, 'Roxxy' and 'Ritual', anthems that have been destroying dancefloors all summer.

"We wrote Rituals all across Aotearoa before Covid took hold of the world. Recording, production, and mixdown took an unexpected turn because of global lockdown and the album ended up a little different than what we originally anticipated... and we are very happy with the result! We've had to wait much longer to share this than we had anticipated due to the general chaos we experienced last year as a crew... so our excitement about releasing the new music is pretty high!"

Give both tracks a listen below and check out their respective music videos! The 'Rituals' album drops July 9.

Ritual (Under Your Spell)

Ritual (Under Your Spell) takes listeners on a sonic journey across different styles and emotions, whilst referencing the classic style Shapeshifter are renowned for.  Opening with sounds reminiscent of 80s synth lines with Diggy’s falsetto vocal and vulnerable lyricism, Ritual dips across highs and lows both stylistically and lyrically.

Describing a journey of support and growth through others, the track eventually explodes into a stomping number for the dance floor. After the events of 2020 this is a tune of healing, for bringing people together, and connecting to the self and others through music.

The Roxxy

A tune that has been destroying dancefloors at festivals all summer, The Roxxy blends old school jungle, rave and metal into a powerful fusion.

After the brooding intro and the ensuing drum and bass assault the track switches to a soulful vocal over an old school jump up bassline. Shrieking rave stabs swirl atop a riddim that hearkens back to the earliest days of breakbeat culture.

The song becomes a battle anthem, with Diggy proclaiming ‘will we ever know potential,’ this is a drum and bass track surely to become an essential one for self-empowerment and motivation.
