Off the back of his latest single ‘Norway’, New Zealand singer/songwriter Harper Finn returns with his brand new track ‘Dance Away These Days’.
In a time where your youth feels like it’s being put on hold, ‘Dance Away These Days’ channels this frustration, each cathartic chorus crying out a challenge to the year of stasis. Moving you onto the floor and away from the ‘twilight zone’.
Written by Harper and co-produced by 5 x Grammy winner Cole MGN (Beck, Snoop Dogg, Blood Orange) and Tobias Kuhn (Dean Lewis, Milky Chance, Alec Benjamin), the song compels you to disconnect from the harsh realities of the world - if only for a few minutes - and simply lose yourself in the music.
“A quote that always inspired me, and this song, was one by Samuel Beckett; “Dance first. Think later. It’s the natural order” explains Harper. The music video – directed by New Zealand photographer and director James Lowe and Nicole Miller-Wong – draws upon this inspiration in a classically simple and striking way.
Harper recently performed ‘Dance Away These Days’ at his sold-out show in Auckland just before the city went back into lockdown. The captivated audience were immediately dancing to the unheard song, whichnspeaks to these unprecedented times by giving expression to that confused sense of loneliness and hopefulness about the world which we’re all feeling right now.
