Macca's might be bringing back the 'Szechuan McNugget' sauceMcDonalds
Nobody did April Fool’s better than Rick & Morty.
After months of fans annoying the fucking shit out of Rick & Morty show creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, relentlessly pestering them over when we would get Season 3... and just as we had accepted we’d irritated Harmon and Roiland so much so they hated us all and were never going to release it, they premiered the highly anticipated first episode of Season 3 on April Fool's.
This sent the entire internet into a mad emotional rollercoaster: confusion, disbelief, joy, triumph, exhilaration, sadness (after realising how amazing that first episode was and having to accept that we’ll probably have to wait another year before we get anything else out of them)…
Then finally, as the roller coaster came to a screeching halt, a mad craving for ‘Szechuan McNugget sauce’ took hold of us all.
Rick’s pleas for the limited edition sauce echoed in our brains long after the closing credits finished.
“I’m not driven by avenging my dead family…. I’m driven by finding that McNugget sauce. I want that Mulan McNugget Sauce … That’s my series arc, Morty. If it takes nine season, I want that McNugget Szechuan sauce.”
We all hear you Rick.
Macca’s debuted the limited edition ‘Szechuan McNugget’ sauce in 1998 as a promotion for the Disney Mulan movie. It existed for one Szechuan second before being cruelly taken away from us all.
The whole fiasco reminds us of the Custard Pie promotion they released at Macca’s a couple years ago in conjunction with some Rugby thing … just as we got attached, started seeing it as a part of our day-to-day lives, The Golden Arches savagely ripped the Custard Pie from their menu.
It’s still a sore spot for our web girl… who actually went on a wild goose (or custard?) chase for the coveted Custard Pie. Travelling to SEVEN different Macca’s drive-throughs in one evening, all of which just kept telling her they’d sold out of Custard Pies for the night, before Greenlane finally conceded the Custard pie was no more.
Crushed. Truly crushed.
Anyway, we digress.
On Twitter, the show asked McDonald’s for the sauce to make a comeback. And the results look promising.
Meanwhile, a Change.org petition has over 22,000 signatures.
And this is even more promising… An official corporate chef at McDonald’s tweeted that he’ll “see what he can do” to bring back the Szechaun sauce. The hype train is rolling people!
What a time to be alive.
Bring back the Szechuan sauce …and bring back the Custard Pie!
