‘Dream Come True’: Kiwi and resident George DJ EMWA interviewed for Rolling Stone Magazine

Let's goooooo!!!!!!

Kiwi DJ EMWA was interviewed for Rolling Stone Magazine and it was a “dream come true” for the deck maestro, who shares her talents fortnightly here on George FM.

She shared the big news on her Instagram, posting a screenshot of the article with the caption:

“ROLLING STONE. A dream come true, thank you.”

Real name Emma Davies, the Rolling Stone article documents EMWA's quick rise to prominence in the Aotearoa scene. She released her first single ‘Crush’ in 2021 which saw immediate success and then just “two years later [she] is an established Kiwi summer festival favourite," the article says.

She was asked what it was like to see her first track be so popular. She said she took her time with it, but it still “went better than we could have ever hoped. It was a real trip seeing my name among artists I have looked up to for years.”

Last year Dillon Francis brought EMWA on stage during his show in Auckland - EMWA opened for Francis and has also opened for other massive names like Quix. Davies told Rolling Stone that it's “humbling” when she’s picked to open/support massive DJs when they come to New Zealand because of the “plethora of talent” in our country -“I still think ‘wow’, of all people they’ve chosen me!’,” she said.

The whole interview is golden. EMWA also talks about when she first realised she was a weapon on the decks, what it’s like to have a whole crowd of people getting down and vibing to your music, and how she “absolutely has to work harder” being a woman working in the electronic music scene.

We are so proud of EMWA for the massive achievement - she’s definitely earned it and this is just the beginning! Every second Thursday EMWA’s playing for George FM Nights from 11 - 12 so if you wanna hear one of the best DJs NZ has to offer, friggin tune in then.
