Since Trump’s shock win last Tuesday dozens of artist have spoken out against the newly elected President.
But nobody’s gone as far as Donnie Trumpet. The Chance the Rapper collaborator and driving force behing the 2015 album Surf, has officially changed his name because of its similarity to Donald Trump’s.
He’s now taken his family name Nico Segal.
Nico posted on his Instagram explaining that the name started as just a joke and a silly play on Trump’s name, but now it’s come to emobdy a much more “hateful” meaning.
“I don’t want to be misrepresented or misunderstood. Trump’s beliefs are not mine. From this point on, call me Nico,” he states. “I am proud to be part of a multicultural family, from the great City of Chicago. I am grateful for the diversity of friends and family who have taught me and believed in me and encouraged me. I couldn’t stand to ever hurt them, or you.”
