Wrap your head round this Kiwi biz releasing a mince n cheese pie flavoured cotton candy

I mean it’s certainly a game changer for somko breaks.

When thinking of a classic mince and cheese pie, your mind immediately goes to a hot, flaky and savoury experience. Well, what if I told you that one NZ lolly brand is selling a kiwi savoury staple in cotton candy form?

Kiwi sweets brands Pik'nMix Lollies and Candy Cutique have mixed two different classic treats to create the most unlikely sweet/ savoury pairing I’ve ever seen; mince and cheese pie cotton candy.

Unbelievable right? But it’s actually legit!

Pik’nMix Lollies NZ posted the whacky combination to their Instagram page on April 1st with the caption: “Your fav NZ companies @piknmixnz & @candycutique have teamed up to bring you an iconic kiwi treat!”

Many sceptics took to the comment section to ask whether the pairing was “for real or an April fools stitch-up”, but the company doubled down on the release.

In a second post, the Lolly biz wrote: “You thought it was a joke? Think again! We take our Cotton Candy very seriously here. Our Mince and Cheese flavoured cotton candy is made with only the finest ingredients, including Wild Harvested Kombu Seaweed Leaves and Dairy Free Parmesan Alternative from @pacific_harvest and @angelfoodcheese.”

I reached out to Merritt, owner of Pik’nMix to find out exactly why they decided to make such a whacky flavour.

Merritt said the two companies wanted to create a candy so wild that no one would believe it at first glance.

“We wanted to produce a flavour that people would immediately write off as being an April Fools joke but might also taste pretty good,” he began.

“WE LANDED ON A MINCE N CHEESE PIE FLAVOUR BECAUSE IT’S QUINTESSENTIALLY KIWI.”

The product is available now and just in case you aren’t a fan they’ll throw in a small bag of lollies as a palette cleanser.

So while we love a good mince and cheese pie and a packet of candy floss on their own, do we think that this new-found combo could be a crowd fave?

I mean it’s certainly a game changer for the tradie smoko break.
