Sir Dave Dobbyn releases new te reo version of 'Slice of Heaven'

In September, 35 years ago, Dave Dobbyn released 'Slice of Heaven', one of the most iconic Kiwi tunes of all time. The single spent eight weeks at number 1, and transitioned through physical sales in 1986 it its current 40 million streams.

To celebrate both the anniversary and Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori, Sir Dave is releasing 'Hine Ruhi', a te reo Māori version of 'Slice of Heaven'. Mātanga reo expert Hana Mereraiha was the genius behind the translation, who Dobbyn says "worked skillfully on the imagery and the vocal rhythm."
